Purple Basil Seeds
Purple Basil brings deep burgundy foliage, warm basil fragrance, and a gentle clove-spice note to the summer garden. The richly coloured leaves are beautiful in herb bunches, salads, vinegars, and finishing dishes.
In The Kitchen
Use young leaves fresh in salads and sandwiches, blend with garlic and oil for a dramatic pesto, or steep leaves in vinegar and syrups. Add just before serving to preserve the colour and fragrance.
Growing Notes
- Sow indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost or direct sow once nights are warm.
- Give full sun, fertile soil, and even moisture.
- Pinch growing tips regularly for a bushy plant and more leaves.
- Harvest flower buds promptly if you want the strongest leaf production.
Packet: 50+ seeds. Leaf colour is strongest in bright sun.
Start indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Germinate at 26–30 °C on a heat mat; peppers stall below 22 °C. Pot up to 10–15 cm before hardening off outside after nights stay above 12 °C.
